How Dual View Imaging Works

The scanner uses two imaging geometries. Each geometry produces a different projection of the bag. Consequently, an object hidden behind another item in the first view may appear more clearly in the second.

Limits of Dual View

Dual view adds information, but it does not identify every object automatically. Moreover, two poor-quality images do not become one good decision. Calibration, detector performance, software, and operator skill still matter.

Airports should also avoid treating dual view as a reason to weaken secondary-inspection procedures. If the operator cannot resolve an image, the bag should follow the approved escalation process.

Operators need practical training with both images. For example, they should learn how an object changes between views and how to track the same area across both displays. Supervisors should also review image interpretation during recurrent training.
